2014-07-18 14:07:32 -0500 answered a question How often (at what frequency) does DataONE harvest Member Node metadata?

It is chosen by the Member Node [??? need better answer as to the default value]

This feature is documented in DataONE documentation. [??? need URL]

Note this question shares similarity with question: "How frequently does DataONE synchronize with Member Nodes, and will data permissions affect synchronization?"

How often (at what frequency) does DataONE harvest Member Node metadata?

2013-05-16 16:09:05 -0500 edited answer How do I cite data I find from DataONE?

The citation you use depends upon which Member Node provided the data. Many Member Nodes provide specific data citation information within the metadata associated with the data record. If the metadata record does not contain specific data citation recommendations, refer to the MN repository website for more information. When in doubt, cite a dataset as you would cite a paper, include actionable links in the full text inline citation and the references section, and credit others as you would like others to credit you.

For more information about citing DataONE resources and other citation best practices see http://www.dataone.org/citing-dataone .

2013-03-13 13:03:28 -0500 answered a question How can I get an account to contribute to DataONE?

DataONE provides services and tools for many data repositories, called member-nodes.

As a DataONE user, to search/query the combined holdings of DataONE member nodes, you can use your own identity from your home institution. DataONE uses a federated identity system (via InCommon and CILogin) to map your identity to its holdings.

To create an identity as part of the DataONE collaboration team, use the register link in the upper right hand corner of https://docs.dataone.org/.

The process of becoming a DataONE Member Node is answered in a separate question in this Knowledge base or http://www.dataone.org/become-member-node

I'd like to get an account that can be used to identify me as a participant and user in DataONE so that I can read & write documents to the DataONE collaboration area, contribute code to the DataONE code repository, or work with DataONE tracking tickets. How do I get such an account?
